Formed over 10 years ago, we are group of friends who all had an interest in sci-fi films and programmes and when one of the group fell ill with leukaemia we all wanted to raise some money to fund research and so the fundraisers was formed.
Star Wars Day 1 was held in a pub and had perhaps 50 attendees, Star Wars Day 10 had over a 1000 attendees and we nearly caused the venue to burst at the seams.
We have supported not just Leukemia charities, but all sorts from Cancer Research, The Devon Air Ambulance and even raised enough to fund a Guide Dog puppy which we named Lucas after the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas!
We have raised over £40,000 in the ten events up to 2008.
After a few years hiatus we have decided to return from the cyberspace wilderness and put our creative and fundraising talents to use again, but this time with a Doctor Who flavoured theme.
The majority of the group live and work in East Devon, although we have members from all over the country who come together to help make the events the success they are.
Informal in approach we do have a committee structure, however in truth we all do a little bit of everything and jobs get divided up equally, based on years of seeing who does what the best – well thatís what I tell them!
Our events are not just about raising money, they are designed to be family friendly, entertaining and good value for money.
We spend a lot of time thinking about how we would like to be entertained and trying to incorporate this into the event.
Many of us have spent a lot of time attending conventions and sci-fi events and hope we have learnt from the bad and been inspired by the best.
We really hope that you can get along to our very first Doctor Who event in 2011 in the beautiful grounds of Pecorama at Beer in East Devon and help us raise loads for FORCE.
We really do appreciate all the support we have had in the past, and hope to have in the future.
